Do I need to erase my computer first?

No. If you purchase data destruction, E-Tech can remove and physically destroy the drive.

Can I keep my hard drive?

Yes. You may remove your drive before bringing the computer if you prefer.

Do you provide Certificates of Destruction?

Yes. Serialized destruction with a Certificate of Destruction is available.

Do you pick up electronics?

Yes. Residential and commercial pickup options are available. Fees and coverage depend on location and project type.

Do you accept electronics from individuals?

Yes. Residential customers may use the drop-off facility during business hours.

Do you pay for computers?

Qualifying complete computers, laptops, servers, and certain professional network switches may be purchased by weight under the current buyback program.

Do you offer paper shredding?

What happens to reusable equipment?

Equipment with useful remaining life may be evaluated for refurbishment and reuse before material recovery.

Do you accept refrigerators or air conditioners?

No. Refrigerant-containing appliances are not accepted under the recovered current policy.

How do I properly dispose of swollen lithium batteries?

Please take the following precautions prior to bringing in your swollen battery.

• 1. Swollen lithium batteries are hazardous and should never be thrown in household trash.

• 2. Completely power down the device containing the swollen battery. Do not attempt to charge it or use it in any way, as this could increase the internal pressure and heighten the risk of a thermal event. If the device is plugged in, carefully unplug it from the power source without putting pressure on the battery area. Once the device is off, move it to a safe, isolated location away from anything flammable. An ideal spot would be on a concrete floor in a garage or on a ceramic tile surface, far from curtains, furniture, or papers.

• 3. Prepare a secure, fireproof container for temporary storage and transport of the swollen battery. A metal bucket, a sturdy glass jar with a metal lid, or a specially designed lithium-polymer (LiPo) safety bag are all excellent choices. The goal is to contain the battery in a non-flammable environment that can withstand a potential thermal event. Once you have your container, fill the bottom with a layer of non-combustible material like sand or cat litter. This material will help absorb any potential leaks and smother a fire if one occurs.
