Preparation & Transport Instructions

1
Transport lamps in closed boxes to prevent breakage
2
Keep lamps in original packaging if available
3
Don't stack heavy items on top of lamps
4
Separate different lamp types when possible for best pricing
5
For bulk quantities, keep lamps organized by type to avoid mixed lamp pricing

Transport Tip

Closed boxes are the safest way to transport lamps. If you don't have the original packaging, any sturdy box will work. When in doubt, call us at (719) 799-6517 for guidance.

Broken CFL bulb

Broken Fluorescent Lamps & CFLs

We accept broken fluorescent lamps and CFLs at $12/lb

Broken lamps must be securely contained in a sealed plastic bag or taped-shut cardboard box before drop-off.
Mercury Warning: Fluorescent lamps contain mercury, a toxic substance. Avoid direct contact with broken glass or powder residue. If a lamp breaks, ventilate the area, wear gloves, and carefully sweep fragments into a sealable bag — do not vacuum.
Loose or uncontained broken lamps cannot be accepted due to mercury contamination risk.
Mercury in Fluorescent Lamps

Fluorescent lamps and CFLs contain small amounts of mercury, which is essential for their operation but makes proper disposal critical. Even a small amount of mercury can contaminate soil and water.

  • • A single fluorescent tube contains 3-5mg of mercury
  • • Mercury is a potent neurotoxin that bioaccumulates
  • • Proper recycling recovers mercury for safe reuse
  • • Never throw fluorescent lamps in the trash
Environmental Benefits

Recycling lamps and bulbs prevents hazardous materials from entering landfills and recovers valuable materials like glass, metals, and phosphor powder.

  • • Prevents mercury contamination of soil and water
  • • Glass and aluminum are recovered and reused
  • • Reduces demand for raw material extraction
  • • Complies with EPA universal waste regulations
