About the Program
The Laptops for Learning program is our community-focused initiative to refurbish and redistribute donated laptops and desktop computers to students in need. By partnering with our customers who choose to donate their devices, we're helping ensure every student has access to the technology they need to succeed.
When you donate your laptop or desktop PC to our program instead of taking a payout, you're directly supporting education in our community. Your generosity helps students complete homework, conduct research, and develop the digital skills essential for their future.
Note: E-Tech Recyclers is not a non-profit organization, and donations to this program are not tax-deductible. We are a local business committed to giving back to our community.

How It Works
You Donate
Bring in your qualifying laptop or desktop computer and choose to donate it to the program instead of receiving a payout.
We Refurbish
Our technicians professionally refurbish the laptops, ensuring they're ready for student use.
Students Benefit
Qualifying students receive free or low-cost laptops through our partner schools and organizations.
The Impact
For every 3 qualifying laptops donated:
- 1 laptop is given free to a student in need
- 2 laptops are sold at low cost to fund the program
Student recipients are carefully selected through referrals from:
- Local schools and educators
- Churches and faith organizations
- Community-focused nonprofits
Qualifying Computer Requirements
To ensure students receive quality devices that will serve them well, computers selected for the giveaway portion must meet these requirements:
For Laptops & Desktops:
- Processor: 8th Generation (or newer) Intel Core i3, i5, i7, or equivalent AMD Ryzen CPU
- Memory (RAM): 8GB or more
- Condition: Fully working with no major damage to screen, keyboard, or body
For Chromebooks:
- Security Updates: Must have at least 2 years of updates remaining from Google
- AUE Date: Auto Update Expiration date must be 2+ years in the future
Don't meet all requirements? Your computer can still help! Devices that don't qualify for direct giveaway support the program by funding tools, labor, and repairs needed to refurbish other computers.

How Your Donation Makes a Direct Impact
When you choose to donate your device, you're not just recycling—you're reinvesting in our community. Our program is built on a simple, self-sustaining model that creates a ripple effect of positive change.
The Self-Sustaining Cycle
For every three "giveaway-ready" devices donated, your generosity powers this cycle:
1 Device is Given to a Student
A fully refurbished laptop is given, free of charge, to a local student in need. We partner with schools and community organizations to find students who will benefit most. Chromebooks or Desktop PCs may also be given depending on student needs.
2 Devices Fund the Program
These devices are refurbished and sold at a low cost to the public. The revenue directly pays for parts, software, and skilled labor. Plus, we offer a 20% discount on these machines to any student with a valid student ID!
This model allows your single act of kindness to have a ripple effect, ensuring the program can continue helping students for years to come.
Your Other Donations Are Vital, Too!
Have a tablet, an older laptop, or a desktop that doesn't meet the specs above? Your donation is still crucial.
These devices are the financial engine of the program. We refurbish and sell them to cover essential costs:
Every donation, regardless of its age or condition, directly contributes to putting a computer into a student's hands.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my donation tax-deductible?
No. E-Tech Recyclers is a for-profit local business running a community program, not a registered non-profit or charity. Therefore, we cannot issue tax-deductible receipts. We believe in being fully transparent about this.
What about my personal data?
Your privacy and security are our top priority. Every device donated to the program undergoes a secure, multi-pass data wipe that permanently and professionally destroys all personal information, meeting stringent industry standards.
How are the students who receive the laptops selected?
To ensure the devices reach students with a genuine need, we do not select recipients ourselves. We rely on referrals from our trusted community partners, including local schools, teachers, and community-focused organizations.
How do I donate?
Simply bring your laptop, desktop, tablet, or Chromebook to E-Tech Recyclers. Let our staff know you're interested in the Laptops for Learning program. We'll evaluate the device and, if it's suitable, we'll refurbish and prepare it for distribution. The value of non-eligible devices will be estimated and applied to the program. Once the value of three devices is reached, another free laptop will be given to a student.
